All cars built from 2000 have immobilizer chips built into the plastic part of the key. This little chip needs to be detected from the cars computer to allow the car to start. As such, these immobilizers need to be programmed to your car. Due to this technology, the process of making a new car key is not what it used to be. We highly recommend ensuring you have at least 2 keys for any vehicle, especially late-model cars. It is a lot cheaper to make a copy key copy than if you lose all of your keys and need to make new ones from scratch. Some cars can cost as much as $5000 if you do not already have a working key.
